In our society the words: fast, instant, quick, now, speed etc., seem to be #trending.
We want everything here and now. We are so used to the fast food, fast information, fast gratification culture. We are a civilisation who runs on instant highs. Most of the activities we seem to engage in revolve around the trending words mentioned above: instant messaging, instant noodles, speed-dating, learn a new language fast…What is so wrong with slow and steady? Luckily for us the slow cooker seems to be making a comeback (although ironically enough, to accommodate our fast lives, so I’m not sure that counts…)
This way of living has become so embedded in us that we end up applying it to everything in life, even to our relationship with God; we pray for something and we want it now. But as we should have learned by now this is not God’s way of doing things. God is an old fashioned kinda guy, so He likes to take everything slow and easy. He’s chill like that.
When it comes to our relationship with God, it is useful to follow the 3 Ps:
1. Prayer
2. Perseverance
3. Patience
Communication is key, so first and foremost we have to talk to God, offer in prayer our needs, no harm in that, we say it even in the Lord’s Prayer, “Give us this day our daily bread…”
Next up we need to be persevering, if there is something we desperately need, we have to keep praying for it.
The last one, is the most difficult; we must be patient. Praying is awesome, being perseverant is great, but being patient is holy.
Trust in God’s timing. Trust that God will give you want you need, when you truly need it and better than how you asked for it to happen. The time that passes from the moment of petition to the moment of granting, is a time for preparation (look at that, another 2 Ps!) He wants to make sure that you are ready to receive His blessings. Just as you wouldn’t apply to run in the Boston marathon and expect to win without having successfully completed many 5K,
10K, 15K, 20K, half-marathons, 25K, 30K, and other less famous marathons, you cannot expect to receive a blessing without having properly prepared for it.
So be patient, trust and prepare yourself, blessings are heading your way!
